GUIDELINES OF HOW TO SET UP YOUR FILES

When designing your own piece, it is important to know how to layout and submit your file correctly. Using the following tips will ensure your file is designed correctly the first time.

We are always willing to answer any questions or concerns you may have while laying out your designed piece.

Safe Zone

When a printed piece is cut down, there are no guarantees that cuts are going to be exact on every piece. We recommend always setting up your document to the final size (unless there is a bleed, see below) leaving approximately 1/8" all the way around. This will eliminate any of your important information getting cut off.

Full Bleed

A full bleed is when you have a colored background or images that continue to the edge of the paper. In order to ensure the piece prints and cuts correctly, you should create the document size 1/4" bigger (1/8" on all sides). This additional space should only include the background colors or images, it will be trimmed off. From the document set up size you want to leave approximately 1/4" for the safe zone (1/8" for the bleed, then 1/8" for the original safe zone).
